Colorless viscous oily liquid. Combustible, freezing point 20.1 ℃, melting point 20.2 ℃, boiling point 228 ℃, 171 ℃ (13.3kPa), 120 ℃ (1.33kPa), 86 ℃ (0.133kPa), relative density 1.0171 (20/4 ℃), refractive index 1.4461. Flash point (open cup) 121 ℃. It is miscible with water, soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, and slightly soluble in ether. It is hygroscopic and tastes bitter.
